Graduated from the Department of General Ecology and Hydrobiology of the Biological Faculty of Moscow State University (1982). Doctor of Biological Sciences (2003, dissertation: "Spatio-temporal scales of the organization of marine bottom communities").
Research interests: theoretical problems of ecology (macroecology, community structure, biodiversity), ecology of benthic fauna, ecology of protozoa, methods of ecological data analysis and computer modeling.
