The 59th session of the Executive Council of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO was held in Paris from June 30 to July 3.

The session's agenda includes a wide range of issues on the global oceanographic agenda, including a review and analysis of the results of work carried out since the 33rd session of the Assembly (July 2025 – May 2026), as well as the current programs of the commission, reports from the IOC regional structures, issues of capacity development and raising awareness and literacy in ocean-related issues, and much more.

Members of the Russian delegation participated in the discussion of all issues affecting Russia's interests.

A.A. Osadchiev and S.M. Shapovalov participated in the session as part of the Russian delegation from the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
