In the period from February 14 to 16, 2022, at six sites in five cities of Russia: Moscow, Astrakhan, Vladivostok, Kaliningrad and Sevastopol, the Floating University 2022 scientific school will be held, organized with the participation of leading scientific, educational and commercial organizations associated with the study of the ocean. The Shirshov Institute of Oceanology is one of the main organizers and represents a platform for conducting full-time scientific and practical events of the scientific school in Moscow and Kaliningrad.
The purpose of the scientific school is to attract and professionally orient students and graduate students of various universities in the field of marine sciences. Introduce participants to modern oceanology, including ocean and atmospheric physics, hydrochemistry, marine biology, marine geology and underwater technology, improve their skills through master classes on the latest methods in data processing and analysis.
The school will include lectures by leading scientists dedicated to presenting the main areas and issues of modern oceanology, as well as face-to-face events aimed at obtaining specialized skills and opportunities for development in various areas of the study of the marine environment.
Venues for face-to-face events will be:
- Shirshov Institute of Oceanology RAS (Moscow, Nakhimovsky pr., 36);
- Faculty of Geology of Lomonosov Moscow State University (Moscow, Moscow State University, GSP-1, Leninskiye Gory, 1);
- Kant Baltic Federal University, and the Atlantic Branch of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology RAS (Kaliningrad, A. Nevsky St., 14; Mira Ave., 1);
- FEFU Institute of the World Ocean (Vladivostok, Russky Island, Ayaks settlement, 10, building L);
- Marine Hydrophysical Institute of RAS and the Federal Research Center "Kovalevsky Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas of RAS" (Sevastopol, Kapitanskaya st., 2; Nakhimov Ave., 2);
- Astrakhan State University (Astrakhan, Tatishcheva st., 20a).
The school is intended for students of any course already related to geosciences and ocean studies, as well as students of all other specialties who wish to get acquainted with the basics of oceanology. The school has no registration fee and does not provide travel/accommodation for participants. Official invitations can be issued for registered students.
