On January 24, Tatyana Anatolyevna Savilova passed away. Our Tanya is gone - warm, sincere, sympathetic, beloved by everyone in the Laboratory of the bottom fauna of the ocean.

Tatyana Anatolyevna came to our Institute in 1974, immediately after graduating from the Department of Hydrobiology, Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University. She entered the Laboratory (at that time the Benthos Laboratory) as a trainee researcher and since then has worked in our team for almost half a century. Tatyana Anatolyevna was formally a technical worker, holding various engineering positions. But she was a huge help - she participated in cruises, took samples, helped prepare articles, maintained databases and helped with the collection of deep-sea benthic fauna. At the same time, Tatyana Anatolyevna conducted scientific activities. She is the author of articles on benthic fauna, mainly from high latitude regions. Without Tanya, many monographs of our laboratory, for which she prepared original layouts, would not have seen the light. In her work, she was distinguished by reliability, diligence and responsibility. The activity of Tatyana Anatolyevna was important both for the professional work of our laboratory and for creating a good working climate. With Tanya in the laboratory it was cozy like at home ...

Tanya's father, Anatoly Ivanovich Savilov, once, during the time of L.A. Zenkevich, also worked at the Benthos Laboratory. He was a very bright and talented person. Those who knew him remember his gentleness and kindness. Tanya followed in the footsteps of her dad and through her there was a very important connection with the times of our founders.

In Tanya, softness in communication and stamina of character were combined in an amazing way. She endured the difficult circumstances of life with great dignity and not only never complained, but also found the strength to support the people around her.

Tanya was an artistically gifted and very creative person. It showed up in many ways. For example, she independently mastered the art of wood painting and created her own style. Tanya donated her works, and many of us have her joyful, bright works at home. The ability to laugh wonderfully is also one of the gifts that Tanya was generously endowed with. We will miss her laughter, her warmth, we will miss Tanya ...
