January 27 marks the 75th anniversary of the leading researcher of the Ocean Optics Laboratory Vladimir Ivanovich Burenkov. The whole creative life of Vladimir Ivanovich is connected with the Institute of Oceanology. Cooperation with the Institute began in the student years in the late 60s and continues for more than half a century.
Burenkov was born in 1947 in Moscow. In 1971 he graduated with honors from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. After completing his postgraduate studies at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (1975), he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. Since 1974 he has been working at the Institute of Oceanology of RAS as a junior, senior, leading researcher. In 1991 he received the academic title of senior researcher.
The area of scientific interests is the study of light scattering in sea water, in particular, to determine the composition of marine suspension. The quantitative and qualitative composition of biological suspension is important for studying the productivity of ocean waters. Geologists are interested in the composition of marine suspension for studying the dynamics of bottom sediments. Since 1980 V.I. Burenkov was mainly engaged in the development of remote satellite methods for studying the color of the ocean. He was a member of several large ocean and a large number of sea expeditions. In 1998 he took part in an international expedition in Belgium.
He was awarded the medals "300 Years of the Russian Fleet" (1996) and "In Commemoration of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow" (1997). Laureate of the award for 2001 MAIK "Science / Interperiodika" for the best publication.
Published more than 140 scientific papers, co-author of the two-volume monograph "Ocean Optics" (Publishing house "Nauka", 1983), monographs "White Sea" (2015), "Barents Sea" (2021).
Colleagues heartily congratulate Vladimir Ivanovich on his jubilee and wish him good health and long life!
