Leading researcher of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dmitry Glukhovets became a laureate of the Moscow Government Prize for young scientists. The presentation took place in the White Hall of the Moscow City Hall on February 4, 2025.
The prize was awarded to young scientists for outstanding results in 2024 in fundamental and applied scientific research in the field of natural, technical and humanitarian sciences, including the development and implementation of new technologies, equipment, devices, materials and substances that contribute to increasing the efficiency of activities in the real sector of the economy and the social sphere of Moscow.
In 2024, a record number of applications were submitted to the competition - more than 1,300 works. The prize was awarded to 78 young scientists whose developments and research have already proven themselves in practice. The scientific work of Dmitry Glukhovets, dedicated to the study of the processes of formation and causes of variability of the bio-optical characteristics of polar waters based on ship and satellite data using original regional algorithms, received recognition in the Earth Sciences nomination.
Ship measurements of bio-optical characteristics of sea water obtained using the original hardware complex in more than 20 expeditions ensured the validation of satellite color scanner data and the improvement of regional satellite algorithms. Thanks to these algorithms, it was possible to significantly increase the accuracy of the obtained bio-optical characteristics. The combined use of ship and satellite data made it possible to obtain spatio-temporal distributions of bio-optical characteristics of the surface layer waters of polar waters, to study the processes of their formation and the causes of variability in the conditions of ongoing climate change.
