The Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences will test new models of marine robotics

The Open Russian Cup in Marine Robotics will be held in Astrakhan from March 24 to 30 at the corporate training center of LUKOIL-Nizhnevolzhskneft LLC.

The organizer is the Caspian branch of P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year. Participants test live remotely operated underwater vehicles and unmanned boats of serial production and their own design, and compete in practicing their control skills.

The scientific part of the event includes the All-Russian scientific and practical conference "Experience and Prospects for the Application of Marine Robotic Complexes", during which participants will discuss issues of practical application and current tasks in the development of marine robotics, modern methods of digital signal processing, technological support for technical vision systems of underwater vehicles, systems and means of communication, navigation and guidance of robotic complexes, as well as the possibility of using artificial intelligence tools in oceanological research.

The event is held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Astrakhan Region, LUKOIL-Nizhnevolzhskneft LLC and the Federation of Ship Modeling Sports of Russia.

This year, 49 people from 11 teams will take part in the competition. More than 70 representatives from 19 companies – developers and operators of underwater vehicles and autonomous boats – will present their reports. It is worth noting that the number of participants in the event is growing every year, each time attracting more and more young and promising specialists to master professions related to underwater robotics and the sea.
