Irina Chubarenko, Head of the Laboratory of Marine Physics of the Atlantic Branch of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Elena Yesyukova, Senior Researcher at the same laboratory, were among the top ten researchers with the greatest contribution to the study of microplastic pollution of sea beaches.
This conclusion was reached by the authors of a systematic review who carried out a scientometric analysis of journal articles in the world's leading scientific journals.
The assessment is based on scientific articles on microplastic pollution of coastal beaches by 2,258 scientists from around the world over a nearly 25-year period from 2000 to 2023.
Irina Chubarenko topped the list of the most significant researchers with 9 articles published in world-class journals in this area, and Elena Yesyukova came in third with seven articles.
The results of the analysis were published in the March 2025 issue of the renowned international journal Continental Shelf Research.
