The scientific and expert seminar "The Volga-Caspian Macroregion: Natural Systems and Sustainable Development," dedicated to discussing the relationship between the Volga and the Caspian Sea and the consequences of modern environmental changes, was held on February 18, 2026, at the Central Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in Moscow. The key event of the seminar was the presentation of two fundamental encyclopedic publications—the three-volume "Volga: An Educational Encyclopedia" and the four-volume "Caspian Region: An Encyclopedia."

During a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya International News Agency on December 18, 2025, the head of the Russian Science Foundation summarized the year's results, announcing the most significant scientific achievements of Russian scientists. One such achievement was the study of the fauna of extreme depths, using the deep-sea trenches of the northwestern Pacific Ocean as an example. The project, led by the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was named one of the top ten discoveries of 2025 by the Russian Science Foundation.
