The results of the spring stage of the expedition of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), which took place in the second half of April 2026, confirmed the ability of Black Sea ecosystems to self-regenerate and maintain a natural balance. The aim of the work, carried out by staff from the Laboratory of Ecology of Coastal Benthic Communities of the IO RAS, was to monitor coastal ecosystems.

Three young scientists from the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences have been named winners of the 2026 competitive selection for the Scholarship of the President of Russia for postgraduate and adjunct students.

In April 2026, a new composition of the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education of the Presidential Council for Science and Education (CoorCouncil) was approved. Dmitry Glukhovets, Head of the Ocean Optics Laboratory and Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, joined the council.

On May 5, an exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Kaliningrad Region began at the Friedland Gate Museum. The P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, together with the Nature and People Foundation and the Moskvarium Center for Oceanography and Marine Biology, conducted a joint expedition to study cetaceans in the Bugayskaya Spit area.

 

A conference on current issues and legislative application during underwater inspections of vessels in Russian seaports was held at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in two stages: Moscow and Gelendzhik.
