Scientific Council of the Marine Ecology Direction:
- conducts a discussion of topical scientific problems and listens scientific Reports on the Direction;
- discusses, evaluates and approves the main directions of scientific activity, thematic scientific reports, reports on expeditions, personal reports of researchers during recertification (by decision of the attestation commission);
- recommends for approval by the Scientific Council of the IO RAS programs and plans for scientific research, expeditionary research, international cooperation;
- considers the issues of material and technical support of research work and plans for scientific and organizational activities of the scientific Direction;
- approves the topics of qualifying (dissertation) scientific papers in the relevant field, considers and recommends the results of qualifying papers for defense;
- gives opinions on the performance of economic contract and contract work carried out by employees of the Direction, as well as individual stages of these works;
- formulates proposals for the Scientific Direction to the Scientific Council of the IO RAS in solving scientific and organizational issues;
- recommends to the Scientific Council of the IO RAS candidates for approval for the positions of heads of scientific departments of the scientific direction;
- nominates representatives from the scientific direction to the Scientific Council of the IO RAS;
- considers other issues within its competence, provided for by the Charter of the IO RAS and related to the field of activity of the Scientific direction.
The Scientific Council of the Marine Ecology Direction is authorized to make decisions if at least half of its members are present at the meeting. When determining the quorum, members of the council who are absent for a valid reason (vacation, illness, business trip) are not taken into account. Decisions of the Scientific Council of the Marine Ecology Direction are taken by a simple majority of votes by open voting (except when the Academic Council decides on the need for a secret ballot).
